Booker T. Jones

Booker T. Jones

October 2, 2015

7:30 p.m. – Tickets $35  (Season Subscriber $31)

It can be argued that it was Booker T. Jones who set the cast for modern soul music and is largely responsible for its rise and enduring popularity. On classic hits like “Green Onions,” “Hang ‘Em High,” “Time Is Tight,” and “Melting Pot” the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Musicians Hall of Fame inductee and GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award recipient pushed the music’s boundaries, refined it to its essence and then injected it into the nation’s bloodstream. The recently released album Sound the Alarm, finds the Hammond B3 organ master looking ahead yet again, laying down his distinctive bedrock grooves!

November 8, 2015

4:00 p.m. – Tickets $25  (Season Subscriber $21)

Join us for an evening of jazz standards, the music of Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin, and more! This concert features jazz vocalist Ava Logan backed by the big band sound of the Southland Jazz Ensemble! Ava Logan is an award winning singer-actress. A graduate of Yale and the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Logan is a veterinarian by day and a jazz singer at night. The classically trained vocalist has performed jazz, pop, and rhythm and blues in the U.S. and abroad including portraying two of her idols, Ella Fitzgerald and Nancy Wilson, at the Black Ensemble Theater. Veteran jazz critic and radio voice Neil Tesser wrote that “Ava Logan offers a fresh breath of old-school glamour, bringing sass and swing to the classic jazz singer’s repertoire while retaining the swanky class that this material deserves. Throw in her superb intonation, and her willingness to always serve the song, and you get a most impressive performance.”
